A Licensed Professional Counselor, she holds a master’s degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling from Geneva College and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Slippery Rock University.
The original, exclusively for community partner agencies that had staff struggling with Substance Use, started organically in the 1980s under the guidance of Dr. Abraham Twerski, Dr. Neil Capretto and Dr. Ken Ramsey in an effort to support local businesses in the Beaver and Allegheny county regions to support their professional/specialized staff who had safety-sensitive roles and were struggling with drug/alcohol issues. Once stabilized in treatment, the medical and clinical teams would help facilitate a pathway for the person to safely return to work. Some examples of a safety sensitive role could be – physicians, nurses, therapists, teachers, industrial workers, construction workers, commercial drivers, leaders/executives, etc.
An evolution of the original, in the late 1980s, a dedicated division at Gateway was identified specifically address not only the needs of professionals entering Drug or Alcohol treatment but also support the referring organization while the professional was engaged in treatment. This dedicated team began expanding their service area to the organizations in the Butler and Westmoreland area which allowed them to reach a broader audience in need of support.
The next evolution EAP services saw an independent expansion where individuals served now included ALL staff at an organization that may be struggling with D&A issues – not just the professional or safety sensitive roles. This expansion was significant in the EAP field as it coincided with efforts across the nation to recognize the widespread impact of addiction on all socio-economic and cultural profiles. During this period in the 1990s, the EAP team began to distinguish and expand its services by partnering with the D&A experts at GatewayRehab & other community healthcare agencies to add an educational component to help referring organizations increase awareness of the disease of addiction throughout their workforce in the spirit of prevention. Following the tragedy of 9/11, the Back on Track team recognized the need to support partnering organizations in our community and their employee base related to issues beyond drug & alcohol awareness. This broader perspective on service included a wider array of issues impacting mental health such as anxiety, depression, dealing with traumatic events, grief, loss. As such, the team added another layer to their base services with supportive counseling for staff members. The success of expanding the scope of EAP services brought to light a realization commonly known in the healthcare world – when one member of the family is struggling, the rest of the family is often struggling as well. During the early 2010s as the Back on Track team offered supportive counseling not just for staff members of organizations but their family members as well. This perspective of supporting the surrounding system of an employee who may be struggling with life-stress is deeply anchored in our history as a community based non-profit organization that was founded in an effort to help people heal through a recovery process that focused on improving their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.
In the early 2010s, other community partners in the region began offering internal EAP services, often with a unique element to them. One exemplary example at this time was the Washington Hospital system. They added in their organization’s unique talent pool of specialists and were able to provide their staff with on-site, “down the hallway” support that was available across all three primary shifts. This unique on-site offering was invaluable to hospital staff as it eliminated multiple barriers to support by providing access directly within the workplace. Similarly, in the mid2010s, another standout community-based organization in the southwestern region of Pennsylvania, the Greenbriar Treatment Center, had also developed an EAP service that provided support for organizations and their staff in the Washington, Greene and Fayette counties. When the Washington Hospital system incorporated the Greenbriar Treatment Center into their network of services, the pairing of their two EAP services was a perfect fit to support the southwestern communities both onsite in the hospital and regionally throughout the tri-county area. Shortly after the incorporation, the two EAP teams were combined and renamed as the Washington EAP Services.
In a landmark event for our region, on July 1st, 2022 two of Southwestern PA’s most storied SUD treatment centers, GatewayRehab and Greenbrier, merged together under one banner and are now known as GRC. During that process, the three historical EAP teams GRC EAP, Back on Track and the WashingtonEAP, along with two long-standing training divisions, Gateway Training Academy and the Greenbrier Training Institute were brought together with the Leadership Coaching and Organizational Consulting divisions under one independent business line – Productivity Partners.
After combining the multiple EAP, Training, Coaching and Consultation services into one cohesive team, Productivity Partners is now able to serve our community, our organizational partners and their staff within the tri-state region of Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia with a wide array of professional services that enhance employees work-life balance, support organizational practices and help drive personal and professional growth for the people and businesses within our communities.
In the spirit of simplicity, we will be combining and re-branding our three EAP services into one – EnCase EAP. Similarly, we will be combining our two Training service lines into one – Steel Minds Training Academy. We will also be launching a multi-purpose, comprehensive website where staff, organizations and community members can learn more about our team and history, access resources for your personal & professional growth, meet & contact our team, login into our online library, schedule time with us, connect directly with our clinical team, resolve any A/P issues directly with our billing team, etc. This site will be www.ProductivityPartners.net(opens in a new tab) and our team can be reached at Info@ProductivityPartners.net(opens in a new tab) or (800) 327-5465(opens in a new tab).
